Teacher Spotlight: Hilary Richard

My first yoga experience was when I was in middle school and I believe it was gentle Hatha Yoga. My second experience I wasn’t aware that there was different types of yoga and it was hot power yoga. Oh my!

What was your first yoga experience?

What made you become a yoga teacher?

I never had any intention of becoming a teacher. My mom encouraged me to become certified, and it has become the most powerful way I’ve ever expressed myself.

What is your favorite pose and why?

Janu sirsasana and parivrtta janu sirsasana are delicious.

Where do you draw inspiration from for your classes?

This is tough to answer. I love planning classes always around building up to a certain intention. I want my students to share the same enthusiasm when it comes to learning about their own body, so I like to encourage my students to observe and take note of the experience within their body within a pose. My training in multiple modalities displays my fascination with mind/body/spirit connection, and in everyone one of those classes I want students to experience that in different ways.

What is something you enjoy outside of Yoga?

I love hiking in the white mountains of New Hampshire. I’ve almost completed every one over 4,000 ft.
