The Yoga Loft Storybook: Thalia Kerastaris

Why/When/Where did you start practicing yoga?

I first started practicing yoga when I got a job at The Yoga Loft. I started working in October 2021. Coming to the studio it felt like a family, especially the connection you make with your co-workers and members. During quarantine, I had taken a class here or there online on youtube but I never practiced consistently till I came to the studio. I started practicing around November 2021. I had been interested in taking classes since I got the job here. Once I went to my first class I instantly loved it and I started with one class a week and then started to go twice a week and so on. Coming to the studio and not being as experienced compared to others I was nervous to go but I was instantly welcomed and not judged. The teachers here help you every step of the way and welcome you with open arms. Yoga and the studio have changed my life for the better.

How has yoga changed/influenced your life?

Yoga has really changed my life mentally and physically. Yoga is my form of a workout, and it not only gets me moving but strengthens my balance and flexibility. Taking a class has helped me mentally as well. I am a junior at Marblehead high school. On top of homework, there are a ton of things going on but yoga makes me feel at ease and I can get away from that stress for one second. When I step onto the mat I know it’s me time. I can let go of all my worries and relax my mind with loving teachers and members. Whenever I have a tough day I head over to take a class, so I can let loose all my stress, worries, and drama. The studio is a calm and loving place that makes you want to come back.

What keeps you busy outside of the studio?

Being in high school has definitely kept me busy. Outside of the studio, I spend time doing the hobbies that I love. I have recently started reading and choosing a book that I like compared to one given at school is great. I get to pick the genre I like and can sit in my bed and read. I also love to cook, I am a big foodie! I love to make new recipes I see online and try new flavor combinations. Family is a big part of my life too and spending time with them and getting to laugh and joke is what really makes each week better.
