Why/when/where did you start practicing yoga?

I started practicing around the young age of seven. My mom had been involved in the yoga community for years, and she wanted to instill her love of the practice into me and my sister at a young age in the hopes that we would continue to practice throughout our lives. During mornings in the summer, my mom would pop a kid’s yoga DVD into the TV, and allow my sister and I to begin to learn the basics of the practice.

Upon moving to Marblehead in 2013, The Yoga Loft quickly became my second home, as my sister and I began to attend classes weekly and bring our friends along with us. I have now been a studio assistant at the loft for a little over a year, and I am so grateful to be able to contribute to such a warm and welcoming community of individuals.

How has yoga changed or influenced your life?

Yoga has had the power to keep me grounded throughout my life. Yoga has not only been a significant source of stress relief at turbulent times, but it has also helped me to better understand my body and what it needs to function at its best. The community at The Yoga Loft has also been an overwhelming source of love and support ever since it came into my life, and I know that it will always hold a special place in my heart.

What are your plans for next year?

Next year I am thrilled to be attending the University of Wisconsin in Madison, where I will be studying biology on a pre-med track. As a midwest girl at heart, I am confident that Madison will quickly feel like home to me, and although I will miss Marblehead (and my sheepadoodle Cleo) dearly, I am so excited to meet new people and pursue an academic path that I am passionate about. On Wisconsin!
